Why are we afraid to have a relationship with others? Could it be that we have been hurt in the past or maybe the relationships we saw growing up and realize that is not the type of relationship you want to have.
I grew up in a household where there was alcohol, drugs, arguing and fighting and I knew I did not want to have that type of relationship in my life.
In the book of Genesis we see God desire to have a relationship with us. After eating the fruit Adam & Eve heard God voice and they hid from him. How many of us have hidden our hearts and emotions from God and from a relationship? Just like Adam & Eve was afraid to show themselves to God, we are afraid to show our hearts to others, because once we get hurt it shuts us down from being able to open up to others and God.
Sin breaks our relationship with God and others. Well you say what sin? When we lie to God, ourselves and others. one lie turns into another and another until that trust is broken. When we know we have done the wrong thing the first emotion we feel is fear, fear of losing what we have and who we have a relationship with.
Once we understand that God loves us regardless of our sin, we can learn to forgive ourselves and others. And we can begin to rebuild our relationship with God, and others. being in a relationship with God there is no high standards, he does have expectations of us and they are written in his word (The Bible).
Let’s not be afraid to have relationships, especially one with God, he will never let you down, God always have your back!
How to build a relationship with God…..first you have to introduce yourself to him, ask for forgiveness of your sins and then take time to get to know him. How do I get to know God? by reading his word, talking with him, fellowship with him. He is waiting on you. He created us to fellowship with him.
Make the decision today to have a relationship with God.
