If we are honest with ourselves the relationships we have, in a few of them there is no trust. We may have 1 or 2 relationships where there is trust. It takes a long time to earn someone’s trust but only minutes, seconds even to destroy it.
Trust is the belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, etc., to place confidence in, to rely on, to confide in. Trust is earned not given.
In Genesis 12 Abram had to trust God totally to follow his instructions to Go from your Country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you, now I know times back then where different from where we are now, but if you would be honest with yourself you know you and God would have a all out war, because we would be thinking you asking me to leave my family and everything I know to go somewhere that I don’t know..I can’t leave my family with a forwarding address or anything. Abram trusted God so that he packed up and hit the road. That is the kind of trust God wants from us.
In Genesis 22 God has decided to see if he could really trust Abram, God told Abraham take your son, your only son, whom you love and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you. Now I know we all would really be in a war with God on this. I can imagine Abraham may have said I trusted you to leave my family and go where you told me to go, and now you want to me to sacrifice my only child and for what. Well the for what was God was seeing if he could trust Abraham to get rid of what he love. God will sometimes ask us to do something to see if he can trust us. Now Abraham set everything up to sacrifice his son and just before the sacrifice took place God stopped Abraham and provided a sacrifice for him. The trust Abraham had in God and the trust God had in Abraham is a good example of how God wants our relationship with him to be like.
It is hard for some of us to trust people because we have been hurt in the past, but I can tell you when we trust God he will never hurt us or break that trust with us. Begin today building that trust with God by beginning your fellowship with him and study time. He is waiting on you!
